Dr Aly El-Samman offers a historical perspective on
the latest revolution in Egypt and points towards a
path to stability in the region.

Egypt from one Revolution to Another is a first-hand account of the last 60 years of Egypt’s history. It offers an interpretation of the 2011 revolution in the context of what had built up to it since the Colonels’ Revolution of 1952.

To understand the current situation in Egypt it is necessary to see it in a broader historical perspective and examine the evolution of Egypt since Nasser’s 1952 revolution. No one is better placed to offer this perspective than Aly el-Samman, previously a close advisor to Anwar Sadat and now a promoter of intergenerational dialogue to the young pioneers of today’s revolution. In Egypt from One Revolution to Another, El-Samman offers a rigorous and vivid analysis of these last sixty years of Egyptian history.

His memoir, rich in revelations and anecdotes, gives us a rare insight into the thinking of some of the most famous figures of the 20th century, including the leaders of the existentialist movement in France. But, more importantly, it sets out a real strategy of peace for Egypt and far beyond.

Dr Aly El-Samman is President of the International Union for Intercultural and Interfaith Dialogue and Peace Education (ADIC) for Europe and Egypt as well secretary general of the Association for Economic Information “Europe-Egypt”. He also contributes weekly articles to the Egyptian press and regularly appears on television as a commentator on current affairs. Dr Aly El-Samman was awarded the French Légion d’Honneur in September 2012.
